This is Basket. Basket is an apparition of an unfilled, regretful soul of a failed musician. He is a blackbird that cannot sing, so he attempts to make avant-garde electro-acoustic classical music with his viola. Basket cannot play any instruments and avoids the effort to learn the finger dexterity of a string instrument, but believes it isn't necessary for experimental music. Failing to understand the nuances of avant-garde, and failing to learn to play his instrument leads Basket to a headspace of snobbery and out-of-touch music that misses the ethos of its targeted community. This drives Basket into a state of ego-fueled denial, leaving him feeling unfulfilled with his connection to the art he makes himself. Basket now realizes that you need to have three connections with your craft to achieve the highest form of musical honor: a connection with you and the music, the music and the people, and you with the people itself.
